1. Agreement to these terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Groundbook app or website ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Groundbook ("we," "us," "our"). Please read them carefully.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using it, you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Your account

Registration: You may sign in with Apple or create an account with an email address and password. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure. Do not share your account with others.

Accuracy: You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep it up to date. Providing false information, including impersonating another person, is a violation of these Terms.

One account per person: You may not create multiple accounts. If you sign up with both Sign in with Apple and email/password, these create separate accounts; account linking is not available in the current version.

Responsibility: You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at contact@groundbook.app.

4. The Service

Groundbook is a personal match-attendance log for soccer fans. We provide tools to:

  • Log soccer matches you have attended
  • Visualise your attendance history on a map
  • Connect with friends to see match facts they have logged (clubs, score, date, stadium; no personal context)
  • Track stats about your match-going history

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We will give you reasonable notice of material changes where possible.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Upload content that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, or harassing
  • Add matches, clubs, or stadiums to the shared catalogue that you know to be false
  • Attempt to access another user's account or data without authorisation
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app
  • Use automated tools (scrapers, bots, crawlers) to interact with the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or its infrastructure
  • Upload malware or otherwise compromise the security of the Service
  • Use the Service to spam or send unsolicited messages to other users
  • Impersonate any person or entity

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these rules.

6. Your content

What you own: You retain ownership of content you create in Groundbook: your match notes, ratings, avatar, and other personal data.

License to us: By uploading content to the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display that content solely to provide the Service to you. We do not claim ownership of your content, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with third parties beyond what is described in our Privacy Policy.

The shared catalogue: Matches, clubs, and stadiums you add by hand become part of a catalogue that other users can search. These are facts about a match, not personal content. They are not attributed to you, and they remain in the catalogue if you delete your account. We may correct, merge, or remove catalogue entries.

Responsibility for your content: You are responsible for ensuring that content you upload does not violate any third-party rights (including copyright, privacy, or personality rights) or applicable law.

Removal: We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms, though we have no obligation to monitor content proactively.

7. Friends and social features

The friend features in Groundbook operate on a strictly private graph. By connecting with a friend, you agree that:

  • Your accepted friends can see the match facts in your log (clubs, score, date, stadium) but not your personal context (notes, ratings, seat, companions)
  • Invite links you generate are single-use and expire after 72 hours
  • You will not use the invite or social features to harass other users

To remove a connection or report another user, contact us at contact@groundbook.app.

8. Third-party services

The Service integrates with third-party providers including:

  • Supabase: database, authentication, and storage
  • API-Football (API-Sports): match fixture and results data, and club and competition logos
  • Apple: Sign in with Apple, maps, and geocoding
  • Sentry: crash and error reporting
  • Resend: transactional email delivery
  • Cloudflare: website hosting

Your use of the Service may be subject to these providers' own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.

Match data sourced from API-Football is provided as-is. Scores, fixtures, and stadium information may occasionally contain errors. We are not responsible for inaccuracies in third-party data or in catalogue entries added by users.

9. Intellectual property

All rights in the Groundbook app, website, design, branding, and original content (including the Through the Ages timeline content) are owned by us or our licensors. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you.

Club, competition, and stadium names and logos belong to their respective owners and appear in the Service for identification only. Groundbook is not affiliated with or endorsed by any club, league, or competition.

You may not use our name, logo, or branding without our prior written consent.

10. Availability and data integrity

We aim to keep the Service available and your data intact, but we do not guarantee uptime or freedom from data loss. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of data that matters to you. The data export feature (Settings → Account → Export your data) is provided for this purpose.

We perform database maintenance and updates periodically. We will try to minimise disruption, but the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy of data.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Groundbook and its owners, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (or $10 if you have not paid us anything).

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on implied warranties or exclusion of certain damages. In those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Groundbook and its owners, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

14. Account deletion and termination

You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Account → Delete account. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. Your personal data is deleted as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason, with or without notice. If we terminate your account for our convenience (rather than for your breach), we will provide reasonable notice where practicable.

After termination, you lose access to the Service and your data. Sections 6 (Your content; the license survives only until data is deleted), 9 (Intellectual property), 11 (Disclaimer), 12 (Limitation of liability), 13 (Indemnification), and 16 (Governing law) survive termination.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you may delete your account before the change takes effect.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.

For users in the European Union: if you are a consumer resident in the EU, you benefit from any mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law of the country in which you are resident, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.

We encourage you to contact us first if you have a dispute. Most issues can be resolved quickly through direct communication at contact@groundbook.app.

17. General

Entire agreement: These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and Groundbook regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.

Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force.

No waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision in these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.

Assignment: You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
